How to block gap between foundation and siding

I need your suggest to fix a trouble with my house. Last fall I constitute out that mice were penetrating my house in the drop downwards ceiling of the basement. I did catch a few with mouse traps merely would like to restrict them from coming in instead. Looking around the house, I found out that in that location'southward a large gap (up to 1.25'') between the foundation and siding (aluminium). The previous possessor were aware of the problem as they tried filling the gap with expansion foam only that didn't solve anything.

Does anyone have whatever idea how to prepare this?

Cheers in advance.

Cutting the expanding cream flat with the bottom of the siding.

Then I would attempt to identify some el-shaped flashing on the lesser of the siding. Making sure that the flashing does non extend past the lip of the siding. There should be wood backside the siding.
Spiral up into that then fasten the flashing to the physical block.

The only place y'all're going to discover a helping manus, is at he terminate of your own wrist. Joe Mondello

Check with most home improvement places they sell bug screen that is designed to be part of the rainscreen on exterior walls.

here is an epitome - Image

I would definatley become rid of that foam as well. If whatever h2o penetrates your siding, it will sit down on height of the foam and rot the sheating/paper.

Could try stainless steel wool if it would fit upwards there.

I'one thousand surprised the foam isn't keeping them out. I spray foamed some foundation openings under my seasonal cottage and it'southward kept out the mices. Or at least they haven't chewed a hole through it in years. Accept y'all seen any sign of damage to the spray foamed areas that would pb you to believe they have chewed through information technology and are coming in that way?

Put a few traps outside as well - I has mice nibbling on my auto's air filter - I usually catch a few a month.

Those box traps - wont want to injure a cat or squirrel.

The thing is that the previous owner didn't spray cream everywhere. There's still sections where there's no foam simply before spraying, does siding require drainage? If I seal the siding with the foundation, will the water that infiltrate laissez passer the siding run inside? I also thought about backer rod and caulking where the gap is not as large.

As for signs of impairment to the spray foam, I'd say no ... only again, why would the mouse chew the foam when information technology tin only walk beside it!!!
